The Hero’s Journey – R+R Medicinals CBD

From books to games, bold, adventurous heroes inspire me to go out, explore, and be my best self. I consider it my own Hero’s Journey to emulate the characters that motivate me. I’ve learned to camp. I know how to shoot guns and bows. I learned tracking and other wilderness skills. I became dedicated to martial arts. I’ve even broadened my views on spirituality.

I’m using this series to share my adventures and the hacks I use to keep up with all my favorite heroes.

To start, I’m gonna drop a bomb.

I work out 7 days a week.

Recently, I started scheduling my life like a real adult and wrote down my activities outside of working, sleeping, and eating. There are multiple hours of running, resistance training, calisthenics, martial arts conditioning, yoga, and miles upon miles of hiking in the Colorado mountains. On top of that, I’m always trying new things like dancing, archery, or slacklining. I’m kind of an action junkie.

Spending 12-16 hours a week bleeding, sweating, and crying (in some cases), is hard when I’m nearing my 30’s. None of it would be possible without learning some hacks to mitigate the constant soreness and optimize my nutrition. I make the joke that I eat more pills than veggies as a vegan, but in reality, I take a multivitamin, an immune system booster, and the ever-important B-12. Like my workouts though, I’m constantly switching up my supplement game.

R+R Medicinals are my current go-to.

They’re a local, family-owned, Colorado company that creates CBD based supplements. R+R Medicinals only uses full-spectrum hemp extracts, which means rather than concentrating on the individual cannabinoid CBD,  R+R Medicinals’ products contain all the other cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes, and phytonutrients for a stronger, fuller effect across the body. They use locally grown, organic hemp and test their batches for consistent potency, profile, and safety. I love the box’s rustic design and simple labeling; it definitely fits the Colorado mountain motif. Best of all though, they’re affordable.

But why CBD?

In addition to reducing inflammation and relieving chronic pain, CBD hemp extract may help to improve issues with stress and anxiety. If you’ve read my past posts, I’m all about maintaining a balanced mood and mental state. Hemp derived supplements add another layer to my well-being. I could go into all the science behind what CBD does, but you’d either realize what an absolute info-nerd I am and quit reading, or we’d be here forever, and you’d have a Bachelor’s in Cannabis Studies.

R+R Medicinals explains it succinctly – “The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a collection of cell receptors and molecules located throughout the body. Our ECS is responsible for maintaining biochemical and physiological balance. Cannabinoids influence this balance by interacting with cannabinoid receptors to regulate natural homeostasis.”

These receptors are found in your:

  • Brain
  • Spinal Cord
  • Organs
  • Immune System
  • Peripheral Nervous System

The benefits of full spectrum CBD build over time and use, meaning that a consistent routine will help you maintain your homeostasis. Consistently feeling balanced, both physically and mentally, with fewer aches and pains?

That’s my holy grail.

I started with R+R Medicinals 1,000 mg hemp extract a few days leading up to an eight-and-a-half-mile trail run.

Their full spectrum tincture uses peppermint oil to reduce the distinct taste of hemp, and they’ve found the perfect flavor blend. I told my wife that if I died on our run, that at least I’d have good breath. I didn’t die, obviously. In fact, it took us less time than we had planned for and I felt great.

Since taking the extract, I’ve been running longer trails, upping my calisthenics, and doing bigger rock climbs. I’m also sharpening several acrobatic kung fu forms in preparation for tests and competitions next year. I barely dance in public, let alone perform martial arts for dozens of scrutinous  judges and thousands of middle schoolers. I need all the help I can get.

I’m also prone to crippling DOMS, or “delayed onset muscle soreness” as it’s technically called, so much so that my coworkers nicknamed me “Dahms.” That was when I worked as a personal trainer, spending my time picking things up and putting them down – not throwing myself into the ground trying to land an aerial butterfly kick. But my muscles have been blissfully merciful to me these past couple of weeks, and I know the only change producing this result was the addition of R+R Medicinals CBD oil to my supplement regimen.

It’s not just for people, R+R Medicinals has a Pet Tincture, too.

My wife and I have a four-year-old Border Collie that we spoil like a child. She’s also my fitness inspiration, because that dog has spent hours doing quarter-mile sprints across hills playing fetch without slowing down. So what if she’s a little obsessed? Needless to say, our dog plays hard and needs special care to keep her healthy. That was made evident last winter when she took a nasty spill jumping from a ledge (because no guts, no glory, right?) and ended up with a limp for a couple weeks.

Unless she’s the next incarnation of Master Splinter from TMNT and has been secretly doing kung fu this whole time, that dog does almost everything we do.

Prior to putting her on R+R Medicinals 500mg pet tincture, my wife and I have been fostering three dogs that she’s been playing with non-stop on top of going on our adventures. She was getting more tired than usual and didn’t even want to go on a hike with us one day. After a week or so on the pet tincture, she’s bounced back in energy. She’s playing at her regular speed, sleeping like a log, and is always ready for a hike. And that’s with three other dogs who fight for her attention all day. There’s no placebo effect in judging her behavior, so I know the CBD is working for sure.

She’s such a beast.

Check out R+R Medicinals here if you want to try them yourself.

If you’re into outdoor hobbies like mine (or not mine), health and fitness, or just interested in hemp extract and CBD, I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences below! Do you use it for your mood? For stress? For post-workout maintenance? Or for the aches and pains related to desk/office jobs?
